What do we notice?
What meanings do we draw from what we noticed?
What do we intend to achieve?
How can we tell we've arrived?
Hello, my name is Hanh Michael. I opened this practice to partner with leaders who want to increase the positive effects they want for themselves and their people.
I work with people at all stages to grow and excel as leaders in their organization, in particular technical professionals who want to become more effective with their teams. My coaching helps leaders grow by mastering key abilities in organizational and/or interpersonal effectiveness, performance improvement, team management, and conflict resolution.
My life and professional experiences enable me to discern issues intuitively and help clients get to the heart of matters more quickly. I grew up in different countries, speak several languages, and integrated into American culture while preserving my cultural identity. As a talent development professional, I rose through the ranks in a global financial institution where people from more than 160 nationalities collaborate on a daily basis to deliver on the mission of the organization. Indeed, for more than 20 years at the International Monetary Fund, I practiced the art and science of organizational and talent development to help managers and staff in multi-cultural settings grow in confidence and abilities as they collaborated, performed, and reached their objectives while leaving a positive footprint on the organization.
As a coach, I continue to leverage my personal blend of coaching acuity and training in linguistics, instructional design, human performance technology (HPT), and assessments/evaluations. I work with leaders/managers and their teams on clarifying their purpose, bringing performance to the next level, and developing abilities to thrive in their particular organizational context and systems. I believe everyone can grow and improve their positive impact regardless of career stage.
Specializations My coaching is practical and holistic, focusing on the whole person and what you need to do differently in your own way to reach the results you seek. This may include:
- Executive/leadership effectiveness (e.g., growing into the leader you want to be, presenting as a collaborative leader with peers, former-peer subordinates, superiors, etc.)
- Inter-personal effectiveness (e.g., resolving conflicts, managing difficult situations, etc.)
- Performance improvement (e.g., improving your own performance or your team's, giving and receiving feedback, holding accountability, etc.)
- Team leadership/management (e.g., building a common purpose for the team, growing the team that you want to lead, being the team member that you would want to hire)
Style Mine can be described as "serious fun supportive no-nonsense"-- a blend of empathy and humor, with questions and observations that get to the heart of the issues and help you grow. Our coaching relationship will be one that invites free and honest expression, I use direct and clear language, and I explore with you so that you can make well-considered, innovative, yet reality-based decisions. As appropriate, I provide context-relevant tools, frameworks, or approaches to support you success in current and future endeavors. I believe that coaching is an opportunity to work on the inner game while resolving day-to-day or strategic issues.
Coaching Philosophy Coaching is an opportunity to transform, not just to problem-solve. That said, we usually start with defining the problem at hand and keeping it in mind as we explore ways to close the gap between current reality and desired state.
All my clients are already capable, resourceful, and wise.Through compassion, honesty, and productive conversations, I will help you draw out the wisdom you already have, not only to resolve the issue at hand, but also so that you can do the same as you move on. Expect that growth and learning can include some uncomfortable moments--questions, observations, or realizations.
We can all choose to continue growing. You need to first want to grow. Working with me, you can expect my full attention as a supportive, resourceful, and at times humorous coach who will walk with you purposefully forward.
Finally, we all want results. I expect to be a full thought-partner with you in charting a relevant course of action. Be open to gaining new experiences and perspectives, experimenting with new skills and abilities, being nudged if needed, and celebrating your achievements.
